Based on my personal experience buying and operating one: the cost slightly more than an ICE vehicle; get better mileage, which will offset the premium depending on what type of gas is needed - regular or premium - and how many miles you drive. In my case, the math said a couple of years to breakeven. Since I generally own vehicles for 10+ years, it was a reasonable decision.
Do you have any cost data on hybrids? They might be the way to go.
